Don Shaw and Brad Seng picked up victories on Sunday during the series annual Labor Day Double Header events at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN on Sunday. Shaw's win was his second of the season, and third overall, while Seng kept his title hopes alive with his fifth series win of the season, and second at Viking. This marks the first time in series history that racers other than Jeff Wildung or Zach Johnson won races on Labor Day weekend in Alexandria, as the pair had won all but two labor day events at the big half mile since 2007.

Brad Seng won his fifth NLRA series feature of the season, and second at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN on Sunday night. The win is also Seng's 31st career series victory. Seng took advantage of a mistake by then-leader Ricky Weiss with three to go, and lead the remainder of the race. Dustin Strand finished second, with Weiss falling back to third, while Jeff Wildung and Cole Schill rounded out the top five. Strand's runner-up finished coupled with a DNF by Mike Balcaen, sees Strand move atop the series standings for the first time since the series left the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN on June 25. Strand now leads by 32 points over Seng, with Balcaen falling back to third, 38 points back of Strand, with one race remaining. The season finale takes place this Thursday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND, with the running of the annual 'Prelude to the Johnny' on John Seitz Memorial weekend. Don Shaw lead flag-to-flag, winning his second NLRA series feature Sunday afternoon at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. The feature was postponed from last nights' rain out. The win is also Shaw's third career series triumph. Cody Skytland, Ricky Weiss, Jeff Wildung, and Dustin Strand rounded out the top five. Strand will take an eight point lead into tonight's program in Alexandria. For the sixth consecutive season, and eighth overall, the NLRA is scheduled to run its' annual Labor Day double header this Saturday night, September the 5th, and Sunday night, September the 6th, at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. The races are scheduled to be the second and third appearances by the series during this, the 50th year of racing at the big half-mile oval on the Douglas County Fairgrounds. A pair of rain-outs claimed two previous series events on Sunday May 24th, and during the heat races on Saturday June 27th. The races are scheduled to be the 36th and 37th appearances by the series at the Viking Speedway, the most of any track on the NLRA calendar.
The NLRA embarked on a grueling five race stretch last week, and only saw one event lost to rain, and two different winners. The action began an hour late on Wednesday night at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN, as a rain storm that his just before six o'clock. Ricky Weiss, driver of the No. 7 Derrick's Sandblasting Bloomquist, pulled away from a hard charging Don Shaw, and lead the final 21 laps to win his 14th career NLRA main event. The win gave Weiss sole posession of fourth on the all-time wins list, breaking a tie he held with Mitch Johnson.
The busiest stretch of the NLRA season continues this week with a demanding run of five races in as many nights. The action starts on Wedesday night, June the 24th and Thursday night, June the 25th at the Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN. On Friday night, June the 26th, the drivers will head south to make the series first appearance at the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN. Saturday night, action continues for the second time this season at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN, before the five race swing ends on Sunday night at the Buffalo River Race Park near Glyndon, MN.
The Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, and the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks fell victim to rain again last week. NLRA Series regular Cole Schill finished fifth at the I-94 Speedway in Fergus Falls last Friday night, Don Shaw was the winner. Another series regular, Mike Balcaen scored a pair of top fives last weekend in Mandan and Minot, ND. Donny Schatz took the opportunity to race at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN after the World of Outlaw Sprint Cars were rained out in Michigan, and it paid dividends with a win. Brad Seng won his 27th career NLRA series feature Saturday night at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN, while rain claimed night two Sunday night. On Saturday night, Brad Seng, driver of the No. 12S S&S Transport MB Custom, took the lead from Cody Skytland, driver of the No. 75 Langdon Implement MastersBuilt by JMR, with 10 laps to go, and lead the remainder of the event. Jeff Wildung, in the Veit Companies No. 50 was running fourth with three to go when he went pitside, while Ricky Weiss in the No. 7 Derrick's Sandblasting Bloomquist and Zach Johnson, driver of the No. 73 Shaw Trucking Pierce swapped the third and fourth positions after Wildung's exit.
Brad Seng has won his 27th career NLRA series feature tonight at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN. Seng had been tied with John Seitz with 26 wins since last August. Seng took the lead from Cody Skytland with 10 laps to go, and lead the rest of the way. Skytland finished second, with Ricky Weiss, Zach Johnson and Mike Balcaen rounding out the top ten.
